Aurehøj Gymnasium
Being a high school student today means being focused on results; on getting good grades. The current Danish educational environment defines the educational setting as of high importance, enabling clear focus. Bearing this in mind, it was a pleasure for Dorte Mandrup to design the new Music Building for Aurehøj Gymnasium – a school long renowned for its dedication to music. With the new and improved music facilities, the students will have a beautiful space to further cultivate their love for music.

Connected by a bridge, the new building is placed at the end of the existing building's gable and is situated at an angle to the adjoining street. This is to underline the movement along the main building and into the courtyard.
To ensure a well-proportioned new building in connection to the existing gymnasium, the extension is split into two volumes, one of which is underground.
The extension has three main architectural elements: The compact cube containing teaching facilities and studios, a dug down rectangular courtyard that offers a wind-protected area towards the south, and the elevated terrace covering 120 m2 of rehearsal space.
The interior spaces are geometrically designed in collaboration with Gade & Mortensen Acoustics to fulfil the highest standards of acoustic regulations.
