Bordings Independent School
The Bordings Independent School was born out of defiance! As an alternative to the cramming and rote learning methods dominating the public schools of 1945 - Bordings Independent School came into existence. The school mentality believes wholeheartedly that a child’s education relies on sense and reason, only as much as it relies on imagination and creativity. Which is why Dorte Mandrup designed an extension to the school that speaks equally to learning and play, as it does to sense and sensibility!

The main intention was to create a building that expresses the transition between the larger scale of the block-structure and the smaller and more intimate scale of the row houses.
The new building consists of three architectural elements: the imprint of the terrain, the volume and the screen.
